How Quick Is a Quantum Jump?

چکیده

Although the only time scale one ordinarily associates with a quantum transition is its lifetime, observations of “quantum jumps” in recent years show that the actual transition time is much shorter. I define a “jump time” as the time scale such that perturbations occurring at intervals of this duration affect the decay. In terms of the “Zeno time” (related to the second moment of the Hamiltonian) the jump time is τJ ≡ τ2 Z /τL . Corroboration is given. I also show that observing the “jumping” will not seriously affect the system lifetime, but will affect the linewidth. This is consistent with Bohr’s ideas on measurement as well as with a heuristic time-energy uncertainty principle.

Some Jump Processes in Quantum Field Theory

A jump process on configuration space whose transition rates are governed by the state vector of a quantum field theory was first considered by J.S. Bell. This process and its variants involving “minimal” jump rates are reviewed, and a recent proof of global existence of Bell’s process is sketched. As an outlook, it is suggested how methods of this proof could be applied to similar global exist...

WHY AND HOW TO APPLY QUANTUM LEARNING AS A NEW APPROACH TO IMPLEMENTATION THE CURRICULUM

The present study was philosophical and analytical research that examines quantum learning as an effective approach to the curriculum in a qualitative way. It explored books, published essays, and related studies, and took some advantages of online materials on the issue from domestic and foreign sources. Because of large body of data on the issue, only the relevant information was included. Da...

Some Jump Processes in Quantum Field Theory

A jump process for the positions of interacting quantum particles on a lattice, with time-dependent transition rates governed by the state vector, was first considered by J.S. Bell. We review this process and its continuum variants involving “minimal” jump rates, describing particles as they get created, move, and get annihilated. In particular, we sketch a recent proof of global existence of B...

The entanglement dynamics of a quantum register with two or three two-level atoms interacting with a common environment is analytically studied by the quantum jump method. In contrast to the usual belief that the environment plays a role of destroying the entanglement, it is found that the environment can also produce stable entanglement between the qubits that are prepared initially in a separ...

Quantum jump codes and related combinatorial designs

Quantum jump codes were introduced by Alber et al. (2001). Quantum jump codes have a close connection with combinatorial designs called t-SEED (t-spontaneaus emission error design). In this paper, we give a brief survey of a quantum jump code together with some new results. Firstly, fundamental properties of a terror correcting quantum jump code are described. Secondly, a few examples of jump c...
